1st and 2nd December: European summit in The Hague. This was the first summit of the EEC's heads of state and government during which far-reaching decisions were reached (former summits were purely ceremonial). The two most important results of this summit were the compromise on the financing of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the acquiescence of French President Georges Pompidou to the opening of accession negotiations with Great Britain and three other northern European countries.[1]
