The 11th edition of the Mediterranean Games were held in Athens, Greece from the 28th of June to the 12th of July 1991. Eighteen nations competed in 24 different sporting events. At the beginning of June 1991, the Pre-Mediterranean Cup was taken out in Georgios Kamaras Stadium with the participation of the best-8 football clubs in Greece, excluding Olympiacos FC, Panathinaikos FC and PAOK FC, as their players were tired of Superleague (A'Ethniki) games. It was something like the Greek League Cup that took place last year. At semi-finals, AEK Athens FC won Apollon Smyrnis 4-2 and OFI Crete won Athinaikos FC. At the final game AEK Athens FC won OFI Crete 1-0 and obtained the title. The next Pre-Mediterranean Cup will be held in Greece in 2013.
