Associação Naval 1º de Maio, commonly known as Naval 1º de Maio, is a Portuguese football club based in Figueira da Foz that was promoted for the first time to the Portuguese Liga in the 2004-05 season. In their first season in the Portuguese Liga, the club finished thirteenth with 39 points. They finished with the same number of points as C.F. Os Belenenses that would have been relegated if it wasn't for the Mateus affair but Naval had a better record than them and Académica Coimbra, who also had 39 points so Naval finished above them. Naval are considered to be an "ugly duckling" of Portuguese football, having one of the lowest attendance rates in the country. Naval are also known for having several different kits, which include the green and white stripes shirt similar to Sporting Clube de Portugal, the yellow shirt like F.C. Paços de Ferreira, an all green shirt, and, finally, a completely white one that is used randomly. The Sporting CP-like shirt is, however, the main kit. Naval is one of the main teams from the Centro-Region, alongside Académica Coimbra (arguably the greatest team in that region), S.C. Beira-Mar and União de Leiria.
