Label of the German Bundesstraße 107

Bundesstraßen are German and Austrian federal highways. One distinguishing characteristic between German Bundesstraßen and the world-famous Autobahnen (motorways) is that there is a general 100 km/h (62 mph) speed limit on federal highways, as opposed to the "recommended" limit of 130 km/h (83 mph) in unmarked sections of the motorways. Once the federal highway is a dual carriageway, the "recommended" speed limit is again 130 km/h (83 mph). Many sections of the federal highways have only two, undivided lanes with no hard shoulder (pull-out area).

German federal highways are labelled with rectangular yellow signs with black numerals, as opposed to the motorways' white-on-blue markers.
