Cristian Zaccardo, Cavaliere Ufficiale OMRI,[1][2] (born December 21, 1981 in Formigine, Modena) is an Italian World Cup-winning footballer, who plays for Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg[3] and the Italy national football team. He plays primarily as a right full back but is also capable of playing at centre back. Before Signing for VfL Wolfsburg, Zaccardo played for U.S. Citta di Palermo, where he attracted the interest of many of Italy's major clubs, including Inter.
One of the best products of the Bologna youth system, Zaccardo debuted in the first team in 2001, under the direction of coach Francesco Guidolin, immediately becoming a regular for the rossoblu and Italy's "Under 21" national team. He left Bologna in 2004 to join his former coach Guidolin in Palermo.
He was part of the Italian squad who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Zaccardo made two appearances in the competitions, causing an own goal in the second azzurri match, a 1–1 tie against the United States.
