De Ceremoniis (full title: De caerimoniis aulae Byzantinae, also spelled caeremoniis, cerimoniis) is the Latin title of a work of compilation produced for the Byzantine emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus (913-959), and partially revised or updated under Nikephoros II Phokas (963-969), perhaps under the direction of Basil, the imperial Parakoimomenos. It describes ceremonial procedures, often in minute detail, from the perspective of court officials, and addresses other matters insofar as they affected the day-to-day rhythm of life in Constantinople. One of its appendices is the Three Treatises on Imperial Military Expeditions.
