Donghu (Chinese: 东胡; pinyin: Dōnghú; literally "eastern hu"), was an ancient nomadic tribe or tribal union in Northeast China. It was once the dominant power in eastern Mongolia before being defeated by the Xiongnu.

When the Xiongnu crown prince Modu Chanyu killed his father and took the title of Chanyu, the Donghus tought that Modu fear them, and they started to ask for tributary from the Xiongnu. The Donghu chief became arrogant and invaded Xiongnu territory from the east. The Xiongnu first evaded, but finally Modu Chanyu attacked and defeated them heavily, and captured their people and livestock.

Afterwards, the Donghu split into two parts: Xianbei and Wuhuan.

According to historical records, the Hu rulers wore headdresses of gold knowns as huguan (胡冠), and gold-decorated belts known as a hudai (胡帶).
