FC MIKA (Armenian: Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Միկա Երեւան) is an Armenian football team, playing in the capital, Yerevan.
[edit] History
MIKA was founded in 1999 on the basis of the merger of FC Mika and Kasakh Ashtarak[1] by the owner of Armavia Airlines, Mikhail Baghdasarov. Under the merger, the name of the new club became Mika-Kasakh Ashtarak. However, the merger only lasted for 1 year, and starting year 2000, the two clubs separated. Kasakh Ashtarak kept its name, logo, history and statistics, while MIKA settled for being a new club. This began the era of FC Mika Ashtarak.
The club has built its own stadium in the heart of Yerevan, which is why Mika is now known as FC Mika Yerevan, rather than Ashtarak. The Football Federation of Armenia however, still views Mika as an Ashtarak based club, although it clearly has nothing to do with that city and is completely based in Yerevan. It has won 5 Armenian Cups and 1 Armenian Supercup since its foundation and is considered to be one of Armenia's top teams. As a Cup holder, MIKA participated several times in UEFA Cup qualification matches, the best result was 2-nd qualifying round in 2007, as the club passed MTK Budapest, however did not advance by losing to Slovak club FC Artmedia.
