FC Progresul Bucureşti is a Romanian professional football club from Bucharest, south-east Romania, founded in 1944.

Despite having long resided in the shadow of the three big Bucharest teams (Steaua, Dinamo and Rapid), the club has recently achieved some good results, having finished three times runners up in Liga I, (in 1996, 1997 and 2002), in each case finishing behind one of its Bucharest rivals.
The team won the Romanian Cup in 1960 and played another 4 finals in 1958, 1997, 2003 and 2006.
One of the clubs biggest successes was the elimination of Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Cup competition in the late 1990s.
Surprinsingly, the club relegated to the Liga II at the end of the 2006-07 season, finishing 16th out of 18 teams.
In April 2009 the club was kicked out of the championship because of financial reasons and will start the 2009-10 season in the Liga III. Prior to this, only a few days before, they were kicked out from the Cotroceni Stadium by BNR, because of debts. It is unknown where the club will play their home matches next season.
