The first same-sex marriage in Spain in the post-Roman times took place on June 8, 1901.
It took place in La Coruna, Galicia, Spain between Marcela Gracia Ibeas and "Mario Sanchez" (Elisa Sanchez Loriga). It took place under the auspices of the local parish but was found out by the pastor, however the marriage was never legally annulled and remained in place for the remainder of their lives.
