The Hackensack Fire Department, provides fire protection to Hackensack, New Jersey in the United States.[1] The fire department serves a population of 43,062 people.[2]

The Hackensack Fire Department was established April 1, 1871. The first fire company was Bergen Hook & Ladder Co. 1. In 1911 a full time fire department was created.
The Hackensack Ford fire was a tragic fire that occurred in 1988 and killed five Hackensack firefighters.[3] The deaths were due to the collapse of the bowstring truss roof. This tragic event changed the way of fighting a fire when a bowstring truss roof is involved.
Nine firefighters from Hackensack have died in the line of duty.[4]
