James John 'Jim' O'Brien (born 28 September 1987 in Vale of Leven, Scotland) is a Scottish born Irish footballer who currently plays for Motherwell as a right winger or forward.

O'Brien was loaned from Celtic to Dunfermline Athletic during the 2006-07 season[1] and made his senior footballing debut in their 3-2 Scottish Cup victory over Rangers on 7 January 2007. He had previously only played for Celtic's youth squad. He scored his debut senior goal in Dunfermline's 4-1 victory over Motherwell on 7 May 2007.[2] He made his senior Celtic debut in their 2-1 victory over Gretna on October 7, 2007. O'Brien joined Dundee United on loan on 31 January until May 2008.[3]. On 8 August, O'Brien signed for Motherwell[4]. After a shaky first season at Fir Park, O'Brien has established himself as a real talent and holds a regular starting spot in Mark McGhee's team.

O'Brien represents the Republic of Ireland, and has played for the under-19 and under-21 teams.
