Jonathan Jay Fortune (born August 23, 1980 in Islington, London) is a professional footballer, currently playing for Championship side Charlton Athletic.
Fortune plays in the centre of defence and his squad number for Charlton Athletic is 24[1]. After coming through the Charlton youth ranks and two loan spells at Mansfield Town, Fortune made his Charlton debut during the 2001–02 season and has been a regular figure in the Charlton first team since.
He was loaned to Stoke City in January prior to the transfer deadline.[2] However, he was recalled by Charlton on 27 February2007 after only four league appearances for Stoke.[3]On March 82007 Fortune was re-signed by Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.[4]
On 2 August2007 it was revealed that Charlton had accepted a bid from Stoke City for Fortune.[5] However on 4 August 2007, after Charlton's friendly against Sporting Braga, Charlton boss Alan Pardew confirmed that Fortune had decided to commit himself to the club.[6]
Fortune was criticised by his own manager after he punched Ipswich Town player Alan Lee in an off the ball incident after the final whistle on 8 December 2007. Pardew claimed "It was a stupid thing for him to do. He will be fined and it will cost him his place in the team."[7]
His cousin is the UK rapper Kano. He comes from a footballing family, with his cousin Clayton Fortune at Darlington and uncle Leo Fortune-West at Cambridge United.
