[edit] History

The newspaper was founded in 1926 through the merger of the British Whig and the Kingston Daily Standard. The word "Kingston" was dropped from the name in 1973, but was reinstated in the early 1990s. The newspaper can trace its roots back to the pre-merger days as far as 1834 when Edward John Barker founded the British Whig. The present publication is Canada's oldest continuously published daily newspaper.
