Lars Lagerback (born 16 July 1948) in Ånge, Västernorrland County is a football manager for the Sweden national team.

[edit] Career

Lagerbäck started his career as a football player with Alby FF and Gimonäs CK. In 1977, he started his coaching career for Kilafors IF and moved onto Arbrå BK and Hudiksvalls ABK until he joined the Swedish Football Association as a youth coach in 1990.[1]

Lagerback was the youth coach from 1990 to 1995 before landing the national 'B' team before becoming the assistant coach of the national team in 1998. By 2000, Lagerback became dual-coach with Tommy Söderberg until 2004 when Söderberg stepped down.[2]

After Söderberg's departure, Lagerbäck was assisted by Roland Andersson and led Sweden to the 2006 World Cup finals where they lost to Germany 2-0 in the first knockout round. Lagerbäck also coached the Swedish National Team in UEFA Euro 2008. The team's early dismissal from the tournament led sports columnist to ask for Lagerbäcks departure.[3] Despite this, in January of 2009, he signed a new deal that will take him to the end of Sweden's 2010 World Cup campaign.[4]
