List of pre-statehood governors of California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of governors of California prior to it becoming a U.S. state in 1850. From 1769 to 1822, the area was a Spanish province in the Viceroyalty of New Spain. Upon Mexico's independence from Spain in 1822 until the U.S. annexation in 1848, it was a federal territory of Mexico. It was then briefly an unorganized territory of the United States until statehood was approved by Congress on September 9, 1850 . For governors of the state, see List of Governors of California.
