The Beatles were a highly successful and popular British rock band from Liverpool, England. They are widely regarded as the most influential rock band in history and are known world-wide. The Beatles continue to be a major influence on music well into the 21st century, having sold over a billion records overall. The Beatles paved the way for new musical styles and influenced cultural revolutions in the 1960s and 1970s. The members of the most famous line-up of The Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Ringo Starr in 2004

Ringo Starr, MBE (born Richard Starkey, Jr. on 7 July 1940) is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor, best known as the drummer for The Beatles. He was the last to join the "Fab Four" line up and was the oldest member in the band.

Starr mainly served as a drummer and backing vocalist of The Beatles, but has also achieved success as a songwriter with the group for the songs "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden", served lead vocals on songs such as "What Goes On", "Yellow Submarine", "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Good Night", and achieved success in his solo career, with songs such as "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen".

Selected song

At 8:22, the musique concrète "Revolution 9", from the album The Beatles, is the longest song The Beatles ever released (the longest recorded being the unreleased "Carnival of Light"), and was originally intended as an extended coda to "Revolution 1", another song from the same album. When played backwards, the phrase "turn me on, dead man" can supposedly be heard repeatedly, and supposedly adds weight to the Paul is dead conspiracy.
