Sirt, also Surt and Sirte (Arabic: سرت,
pronunciation (help·info)) is a city in Libya, in the Surt Municipality, seat of some important governmental institutions (on the national level) and hometown of the Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi.

In October 2007, Surt was the site of talks between the government of Sudan and certain Darfur rebel groups.[1]
