The University of Joensuu was founded in 1969. It operates campuses in Joensuu and Savonlinna and a research station in Ilomantsi. The University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in eight different fields:
Around 8300 students are currently enrolled, of which 1100 at the Savonlinna campus. The number of staff is currently 1400.
