[edit] Health effects of tobacco

[edit] Interested in putting together a Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Tobacco?

I'm not, but I think it would be a worthwhile project to have to bring all the articles relating to tobacco, from a taxonomic, cultural, medical, and commercial viewpoint, under the supervision of one project. Please let me know if you're interested. Cheers! bd2412 T 01:34, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm interested. ChyranandChloe (talk) 04:56, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Great! Put your name down and see if you can recruit a few other people, and I'll help get the project approved and rolling! bd2412 T 05:22, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Done. My roster of people who work on this series is: MastCell, Nmg20, Peter Isotalo, and Vuo—if you want to inform them. I hope this helps. ChyranandChloe (talk) 05:33, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. Cheers again! bd2412 T 05:51, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Template:DOI

Hello... saw your edit summary regarding the template and the lack of protection. FYI, I've added it to a list of templates for full-time protection, along with the other related ones. Please let me know if I've missed anything, or if any issues arise. Cheers. --Ckatzchatspy 18:11, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm planning on adding a feature giving the option of not showing the "edit" button, the template's subpages usually shouldn't be tampered with. This is where the citation data is stored, it's its were the edit button leads to. A bot takes care of all the editing, and only rarely does it need assistance from editors. Whether this entails semi-protection as well is beyond me. ChyranandChloe (talk) 04:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi C+C, I was the "offending party" as it were. I'm not all that familiar with cite doi (in fact I had to look up the template). Is there a right/wrong way to do it? Thanks - Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 04:51, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah. If I was a vandal, I could completely rewrite everything below where the {{Cite doi}} instance occurred, and it would nearly impossible to detect where it came from because the template is "transcluded", the vandalism won't take place at Global warming, but on Template:Cite doi/10.1073.2Fpnas.0812721106. To further confound the issue, it would also be almost impossible to revert the vandalism because the vandalism wouldn't take place on Global warming. This would be pretty incredible spectacle as we would be completely confounded on how to fix this issue: we wouldn't know which {{Cite doi}} is corrupted, and passing editors who aren't informed of this new procedure will probably end up reverting all to the way back to 2007 to when the article had its last review and when template was not used in the first place as an attempt to fix the problem.

I'm working out the security features right now in a proposal on Talk:Global warming, thread "Cite doi", if you want to comment. I'm sorry if you felt offended, but this is something you need to take seriously; {{Cite doi}} reduces a lot of burden on the editors, but it comes with a lot of responsibility. ChyranandChloe (talk) 05:26, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

No, no, I didn't feel offended at all -- note I wrote "offending" rather than "offended" -- just trying to find out what I should have done differently. Your suggestions at Talk:GW look good. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 13:30, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Ckatz, I've finished coding and testing the new feature into {{Cite doi}}. If you pass a "noedit" after the doi number, the edit button will now show. The code is on User:ChyranandChloe/Workshop 19, proposal on Template talk:Cite doi, demonstration is below. I can't edit {{Cite doi}} because I'm not an administrator.

  • {{User:ChyranandChloe/Workshop 19|10.1073/pnas.0812721106}} yields:
Solomon, S. (2009). "Irreversible climate change due to carbon dioxide emissions". Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. doi:10.1073/pnas.0812721106.  edit
  • {{User:ChyranandChloe/Workshop 19|10.1073/pnas.0812721106|noedit}} yields:
Solomon, S. (2009). "Irreversible climate change due to carbon dioxide emissions". Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. doi:10.1073/pnas.0812721106.

When the code is moved it would be {{Cite doi|10.1073/pnas.0812721106|noedit}} again. Thanks. ChyranandChloe (talk) 05:45, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] thank you :-)

Hi there, It was very kind of you to welcome me and to give me some direction. I will ask for your help if I need it; I'm sure I will! Have a wonderful day! —Preceding unsigned comment added by R4Rvolunteer (talkcontribs) 18:50, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

You too, remember to sign your posts, its with four tildas ~~~~. Also you got a response on your protection request from an administrator on WP:RPP. ChyranandChloe (talk) 18:52, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] [citation needed]

Hi ChyranandChloe Is there a wiki page that can simply explain and sow expamples of these codes. So that I can add the page as link on User:Dolfrog idiots guide to wiki.

Due to my communication disorder I find most of the WIKI support pages have too much over the top text, and very little basic instructional information. I find the so called WIKI help pages a very alien environment.

Commented on your talk page. ChyranandChloe (talk) 04:49, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] June 2009

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please know that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on Health effects of tobacco. If you create or edit an article, know that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

  • I realize you've been here a while and are probably aware of all this, but it seemed a reminder was in order as you seem to want total control of that article. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:54, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
I understand. You know, I disagree with total control. Within one comment, this is now about character, not content. When you template me, Beeblebrox, are you disregarding content in favor of a personal attack? Are you saying that I have not read WP:OWN, and disagree with your assessment? I find your actions disparaging. This is offensive, Beeblebrox. If you are going to echo this label, support your claim. ChyranandChloe (talk) 19:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Replacement

I saw that you replaced the "stochastic effect" paragraph [1]. In my opinion it was a really good idea. --FocalPoint (talk) 21:11, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. It's part of lead flow. Explained, for this article, Tobacco smoking, in the layout log here if you want to read it. Some of the questions you've brought up in Health effects of tobacco is actually gone over here. I wasn't sure about the "Vectors" section, it used be called "Risk type"[2] which was then reworked. Furthermore the difference in tobacco products doesn't necessarily entail differences in its effects.[3](Surgeon general page 25, major conclusion 3) So that's pretty much the news. What do you think about the dispute? ChyranandChloe (talk) 03:02, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
