Given the dysfunction that now prevails in the Wikipedia community, and the fact that effort on Wikipedia is anonymous, unrecognized, and unrewarded, the most appropriate course for a scientist or other expert is to avoid all stress inducing aspects of the project and maximize leisure time pleasure. They should treat the project as a fun hobby and stay away from potentially stressful activities such as resolving disputes or enforcing policy.

These hobbyist-experts ought not to concern themselves with the success or failure of Wikipedia. Perhaps Wikipedia will squander the labor of talented volunteers. Perhaps Wikipedia will squander the good will of readers as inferior and biased articles increasingly predominate. Such matters are of no consequence to the hobbyist-expert.

Be a WikiSloth. Spend time with your family. Write real papers and real articles in the real world. On Wikipedia, enjoy yourself.

Another Tip of the moment...

When to use external links

While Wikipedia is not a web directory, external links are allowed where appropriate. They generally are listed under a == level 2 heading == called "External links", even if there is only one link. The best way to create such a link is to type "[URL link title]". For example, [http://www.wikibooks.org Wikibooks] will become Wikibooks. However, such short link titles generally are frowned upon. Try to describe your links, so that the reader has a pretty good idea where it will take them before clicking it. Don't use external links where Wikipedia links exist. For example, in an article about Wikimedia, a link to Wikibooks (the Wikipedia article about the project) would be more appropriate than a direct link to Wikibooks.org.

[edit] Thank you.

Much thanks for the tags. You've been instrumental in the success of our wikiproject. On behalf of the rest of my AP Biology class, I want to present you with the following - you're efforts with us have truly been deserving of no less. Again, thank you.

The Invisible Barnstar
For all the unseen work you dedicated to the project: you were key in achieving the success our class enjoyed this year, and your efforts certianly were the moral boost that I, as well as other students, needed during the rough beginning. A personal "thank you" as well, for you have truly made my wikipedia experience a pleasurable one; I hope I can take the friendly nature you have shown me and apply it to strangers in my own life. Cheers! FoodPuma 21:12, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:The Lightning Thief/GA1

Hello, even though I do appreciate your review of The Lightning Thief, it was not very extensive. There are ac couple of things I would like for you provide for me to help me pass the article:

  • A link to good examples of Good Article like one thats about a book and not one about a series.
  • What she be in each section you told me to make.

If you provide this, the article will be ready in no time.--(NGG) 20:28, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] WP:Good articles/recent

Hey Wassupwestcoast. I would just to update you on some developments with the WP:Good articles/recent page. Following a bot request, it became apparent that it would be handy to have a bot pipe new additions to WP:GA onto the /recent subpage. Now, I admit that the bot's been having a few problems, but I hope these have now been worked out. It should mean that every 5 minutes the newest additions are added automatically, so all users like you have to do is add the newly listed GA to WP:GA and let the bot do the work. Of course, you're allowed to do it yourself, but you don't have to. Essentially though, you can either carry on as normal or take advantage of the bot, as you wish. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 08:47, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wizard rock task force proposal

The idea of a Wizard rock WikiProject was proposed almost two years ago. Now that there are two more bands and a few more Harry and the Potters releases with articles, it would benefit to have a wizard rock task force. There just thirteen articles related to wizard rock, however the task force will not only be a place that improves these articles, but will also be a place to gather sources, build new articles in collaborative sandboxes and discuss uploading the mass of photographs related to wizard rock to WikiCommons (from Flickr). The task force will be under the umbrella of WikiProject Harry Potter.

To get involved within the task force or discuss it, see here. Alex Douglas (talk) 10:05, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Lightning Thief

Wow, the article truly looks absolutely amazing now. The only things left to do are the second paragraph in the lead and the style and genre section. I can deffinently pull of the lead part but I really need some help with the style and genre section. As the reviewer, can you help me out? Thanks.--Next-Genn-Gamer 01:11, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Lol, just noticed you sent me a message. I was listenng to the best song ever.--Next-Genn-Gamer 03:36, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Lightning Thief GA

I hope to renominate it after sorting out the issues you raised. Can you please tell me whether the article is short on anything but 1A and 1B? Your suggestions would be appreciated. Pmlineditor  Talk 07:51, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

As the article is right now, 1A and 1B are the big problems. Once those are cleared up, I think the article will have a good chance at GA. Cheers, Wassupwestcoast (talk) 15:33, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] UG99

Can you restore the redirect? Thanks. 208.70.31.186 (talk) 12:06, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Lightning Thief

Hello, when you failed the Lightning Thief, you said the plot section was about 700 words. I took it into Word Perfect and it only came out as 549 words. So do you mean the plot and the major characters section put together?--Next-Genn-Gamer 15:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I agree. Right now, I get a word count of 549. By the way, 'plot summary' and all the sections have to be in balance with each other. A plot summary that is 500 words long when every other section is barely a 100, would be out of balance. At the moment, the 'plot summary' of The Lightening Thief is still the longest section. Cheers, Wassupwestcoast (talk) 02:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I've reduced the plot summary to 438 words. However, it still remains the longest section of the article. I'll probably re-nom it within a few days. Regards, Pmlineditor 09:16, 5 July 2009 (UTC).
