Hello! Are you interested in architecture? Do you think it is important to impart knowledge about architecture? Then we would like to invite you to help us in this Project!
An important note for everyone to remember: This project develops ideas about how we might organise data in articles about architecture. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the guidelines below may be helpful. Mainly, we simply invite you to write articles!

[edit] Help for authors
[edit] Create new articles
- Relevance: Is the article you want to create relevant or important for the Wikipedia? - see Wikipedia:Importance
- Naming: Generally: use the common name! - See Architecture Manual of Style/Naming conventions
[edit] Using starter templates
The starter templates listed below can assist you by setting up standard headings and infoboxes in your article. To use them follow this procedure:
- Create a blank article having first considered the the information above concerning naming conventions and relevance.
- Copy the following text and paste it into the blank article:
- {{subst:Architect}} for articles about architects
- {{subst:Modern building}} for articles about buildings begun on or after 1900
- {{subst:Historic building}} for articles about buildings begun before 1900
- Save the article
- Edit the article again, and add the text for your article under the headings that are created.
[edit] Infoboxes
The starter templates above are embedded with the following infoboxes than can be inserted separately into an article - this is not compulsory - often architecture articles are better first illustrated by other means:
- Please use the Template:Infobox Architect for writing an article about an architect.
- Use the Template:Infobox Modern building or Template:Infobox Historic building for an article about a specific building.
- Please use Template:Infobox Bridge for a bridge structure.
- See Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture/infobox for a full list of architecture Infoboxes, including instructions on usage and examples.
[edit] Templates to organise a series of articles
Use these series box templates for articles about:
- {{Archhistory}} Architectural history
- {{Template:Modernarch}} Modern architecture use
- {{Template:Postmodernism}} Postmodern architecture
- {{Template:Regional-arch}} Regional architecture
- For writing an article about architects and important topics in architecture, notable buildings and structures or anything else related to this WikiProject. For more information, see Article assessment below. Put this Template at the top of the article's talk page {{Architecture}} which will display the following:
| WikiProject Architecture | |||||||||||
|
|||||||||||
| Points of interest related to Architecture on Wikipedia Portal – Category – WikiProject – Stubs – Deletions – Cleanup |
[edit] Expand stub articles
If your article is a stub, please add one of the following stub templates to the bottom of the article.
- {{architecture-stub}} for stub articles about architecture.
- {{arch-style-stub}} for stub articles about architectural style.
- {{room-stub}}for stub articles about rooms in a building.
- {{architect-stub}} for architect stubs.
- {{US-architect-stub}} for American architects
- {{UK-architect-stub}} for British architects
- Use {{engineering-stub}} for Civil or Structural engineering stubs.
- Please refer to Category:Building and structure stubs to use specific templates for the location of the building.
- Other stubs can be found here - WikiProject Architecture/stub categories
[edit] Selecting the right category
Main topics are listed in Category:Architecture. Please place your article in the appropriate sub-category, not in the main architecture category, to reduce clutter
- Go to 'WikiProject Architecture/Categories to get an overview, and to help place your article in the same sub-category as similar articles
[edit] Useful resources
[edit] Pictures, drawings and media files
Please use pictures and drawings in the article! Pictures, drawings, videos etc. should be uploaded to the Commons, not to any national Wiki. For more information see Commons:About and the Commons:FAQ. For naming the image files, see: Commons:CommonsProject Architecture#Naming_of_Files.
- Images, sketches, drawings and photographs may also be requested at WikiProject Architecture/Requested images or Wikipedia:Requested pictures

[edit] Collaboration of the month
December 2007/January 2008
[edit] Johannes Itten
- Nominate and support Representing the earlier 'mystical' expressionist phase of the Bauhaus, Ittens' contribution to colour theory was seminal - and a very interesting nut job to boot. --Mcginnly | Natter 14:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)**
- I've disagreed elsewhere about Itten as deserving a COTM for architecture (perhaps elsewhere). Itten was not an architect, nor did he teach architecture. In fact, I believe that the Bauhaus' department of architecture wasn't even founded until well after Itten had left. (I agree that he WAS an interesting nut job, but this is WikiProject Architecture, not WikiProject Expressionism, nor WikiProject ColorTheory, nor WikiProject Bauhaus, nor WikiProject Nutjobs.)
